Traffic Safety
Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.
Traffic Safety Reminders from The City of Calgary
The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.
Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.
Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Parents are asked to make a loop when driving students to school at Rideau. Please drop off on 30 Ave SW heading eastbound. Please do not park in the bus zone or block the alley. Please do not drive into the cul de sac in front of the school as this is a heavy pedestrian zone. Never be in a hurry when near Rideau Park School. It is not worth the consequence.
Parents who are picking up a student during the day are asked to park in one of the two stalls immediately at the entrance of the staff lot.
Important Safety Notice for Parents
Please be advised that due to increasing safety concerns of neighborhood residents and our student community, policing of city bylaws relating to parking and traffic restrictions will be more strictly enforced in the coming months. Unfortunately, there is no car-accessible front door drop-off nor parking availability directly at our school entrance.
Be aware that Rideau Road Back Alley access (off 30 Ave SW) is NOT permitted for student drop-off. Alley access is for residents and Rideau staff ONLY. Please respect our neighbours.
If you drive your children to school, we URGE you to consider the following:
- ’Kiss & Go’ Drop-off zone with ONE-WAY TRAFFIC FLOW. See Map: Rideau Road, left turn to 30th Ave
- Street parking is available on 30 Ave S.W. (south side only please)
- Minimize idle time. The small public parking lot on the south end of the soccer field is reserved for families with small children and students with injuries.
- Please walk whenever possible - the pedestrian bridge from Elbow Dr SW provides another foot access entry route
- Consider dropping off older children within reasonable and safe walking distance and remind them of street safety.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Volunteer Parking
Volunteers or guests who are parking for an extended time, please use the lot at the south end of the school yard on 32 Street SW.
Staff
Staff and substitute teacher parking is in the lot at the north end of the school.
Mission Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Rehabilitation work is continuing on Mission Bridge to extend its life by about 35 years. Work requires some lane reductions and a full weekend closure of the bridge to motorists this fall. People driving, walking or wheeling in the area are asked to please follow construction detour signs for their safety and that of construction crews. Cyclists are reminded to please dismount when crossing the bridge.
A full weekend closure of the bridge to vehicle traffic is planned for late September. Pedestrian and wheeling access will remain open during this closure. This should be the last full closure of the bridge before substantial completion of this project later this year.
Overall project completion is expected by the end of 2025. We recommend parents visit the project page for updates on construction and detours; you can also subscribe to the project newsletter which is sent directly to subscribed email accounts when a new detour is announced.
If driving directly to the school is required, allow extra time as many vehicles will be travelling through the area. For details and updates on detours, please visit the Mission Bridge project page.
How will this affect school bus transportation?
CBE Transportation is aware of the Mission Bridge Rehabilitation project. Bus stops, pick up/drop off times and the route the school bus will take will be planned with the Mission Bridge detours based on school bus registrations received by June 16.
More information about the Mission Bridge Rehabilitation Project can be found at the City of Calgary Website: Mission Bridge Rehabilitation
