Hello Rideau Families!
K-6 Classroom Complexity Team – Staffing Update
We are happy to share that we have begun working with two new Education Assistants to provide targeted support across classrooms up to grade 6. Please join me in welcoming Education Assistants Ms. T (Trupti Gaikwad) and Ms. Tamara (Tamarabrakiemi Coleman) to our team for the remainder of this school year. Ms. T and Ms. Tamara will work closely with our administrative team and teachers to coordinate support across several classroom spaces. These new positions are in addition to the role temporarily being filled by teacher Ms. Lindsay Ritchie who has been busy working with learners across all classrooms in our K-6 environment. Through the provincially funded Classroom Complexity Team model, the focus is on providing early intervention to our younger students. This population can require more time and adult support for literacy, numeracy, regulation and social communication. Additionally, targeted support is being provided to help address the diverse needs of our students who are learning English as an additional language.
Grade 7-9 Band Students Perform at Elbow Park School!
We had a great time visiting our friends at Elbow Park School on Thursday April 16. Our students, along with Ms. Koshynsky and pre-service music teachers Kassandra and Douglas, trekked through the aftermath of our spring snowstorm to ensure that this concert would continue as planned. Ms. Riquelme supported by driving heavier instruments and equipment in her vehicle. We are looking forward to more opportunities to connect with our feeder schools.
Learning Commons Update
The remaining flip-top tables were delivered yesterday, and we could not be more pleased with the result! These tables are so much smoother and lighter to move around, making it a lot easier to redesign our learning environment.
Improving this space has been made possible only through the fantastic partnership that we have with our Rideau Park Parent’s Association. This, along with replacing aging desks in three of our grade 7-9 classrooms, has made our learning spaces much more welcoming and supportive for our students. We continue to await the arrival of standing desks – all of which will be distributed among our classrooms for the benefit of all students.
Education Matters – Another way to make a direct difference!
We recently received an anonymous donation of just over $1000 that allowed us to purchase and install new bulletin boards in several grade 7-9 spaces! Some of you may have noticed that this year our CBE facilities team installed some new walls and doors to close off 2 basement classrooms. This provided an opportunity for vertical learning spaces. Additionally, we were able to install bulletin boards in Ms. Redwood’s classroom which was sadly lacking! These financial gifts allow us to improve learning conditions at our school when our tight annual budget must focus primarily on staffing costs. If you or someone you know is passionate about public education at Rideau Park School, please take a look at our school’s personalized donation page.
