Hello Rideau Families!
Maatoomsii’Pookaiks (Children First) Indigenous Education PL Day
La belle province!
Our grade 9 French students along with Mme. Ford, Mr. Yackulic and Ms. Wegg have had a wonderful experience of language and cultural learning in Quebec this week. As a school community we are thrilled that we were able to reschedule October’s trip. We would like to express our gratitude to our families for their ongoing support of our work, as well as to our teachers, not only those participating in the trip, but also those remaining behind who have supported alternate scheduling and planning during our teachers’ absences.
Thank you families!
Last night we hosted a presentation for incoming grade 7 students and families. We are excited to welcome new families to our Rideau Park community as well as support our current grade 6 students in their preparations for entry to Junior High! The most exciting topics of conversation focused on off campus lunch, locker use and choosing options. We know that that transitions are a critical time of excitement and potential worry for our students. If you would like further support or have questions about preparing your student for grade 7, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team. We are happy to help.
Registration for School Bus transportation for 2026-27
Eligible families must apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed. It may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus. Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August.
Lost and Found
Our lost & found is full of unclaimed personal items again. Ask your child to check the lost & found by end of May. Items unclaimed at end of May will be donated.
Reminder - Current year Grade 7 & 8 students have an opportunity to give input into the 2026-27 homerooms!
We know that student voice matters and contributes to overall wellbeing at school. Students can complete an online form to submit names of 4 learning peers, where one person from their choices will be matched with the same homeroom. Please note that the learning peers are not ranked, and students can expect that anyone from their choices will be the match. The links to the online forms have been emailed to students (@educbe.ca emails) and to parents (via School Messenger). This feedback from students, along with careful teacher planning and consideration ensures that we can create positive learning environments for everyone.
Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) Volunteers Needed!
PAT’s are just around the corner for our students in grades 6 and 9. Adult volunteers (with security clearance) are needed to support students as either test readers or scribes. If you can assist with any of the dates and times below, please contact our Assistant Principal Ms. Cochrane jacochrane@cbe.ab.ca

June 25, 11:00 AM -12:00 PM: Kindergarten “Graduation” at Rideau Park School – gym
Additionally, we have settled on the morning of June 5 for our Sports Day event. We will require some parent volunteer support to help with a refreshment station. We also respectfully request support to help us purchase refreshments.
We also know that many students are wondering about the annual Talent Show. We have decided that this will occur on Thursday, June 25 starting at 1:30 PM. This opportunity is open to all students across grades 1-9!
We will share more details about these events as we finalize or planning.
Rideau Park Parents Association - School Council Update
Thank you to our School Council and Rideau Park Parents Association for working tirelessly to enrich the learning environment at Rideau Park School for all students.
Executive Council Vacancies Need Volunteers!
Our final School Council and RPPA meeting (AGM) is taking place in person in the Rideau Park Learning Commons on May 20, 2026 at 6:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
Some final reminders – Help us with the following!
- There is an increase in parents working with delivery services to have lunch dropped off for students. This is creating extra pressures in the office (receiving additional visitors, locating students, figuring out who the order is for…). We respectfully ask that families do their best to have lunches packed from home so that we can remain focused on learning as our central purpose at school.
- Students are asked to please walk their bikes and scooters once the arrive on school property. We are noticing many ‘near-misses’, especially at the end of the school day when students are rounding the corner at the south end of the building. Please also remember to secure your bikes and scooters. The school is not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen property.
