Report Cards and Student Attendance
We hope that by now all families have taken some time to review their students’ report card through the MyCBE portal. You will also notice in the report card a summary about attendance. Please note that we will be reaching out to families who have absentee rates above 20%. It is important to know that any chronic absenteeism is defined as absentee rates at 10% and up.
Regular attendance at school supports strong achievement. If your child is struggling to attend school or if there is something that is impacting attendance that we should know about, please do reach out so that we can work together to improve.
March Conference News
It is important to remember that communication about your child’s progress and opportunities at school can take place in many ways. Teachers keep regular updates on task completion and performance through PowerSchool, share updates on classroom tasks or provide resources through Google Classroom (K-6) or Brightspace-D2L (7-9), along with communication through e-mail, phone calls or in-person meetings. Complementing these opportunities are our whole-school conference plans that take place in September, November and now, in March.
For this month, we have decided to offer Student-Led Conferences for our students in grades K-6 and traditional 10-minute conversations with teachers for students in grades 7-9.
Grade K-6 Student-Led Conferences are a wonderful opportunity to allow your child to lead you through a series of centres or stations set up in their classroom that showcase learning across all academic disciplines. Your child might be able to challenge you to solve a math problem in a variety of ways, celebrate their progress in reading and writing, or walk you through a special project in social studies or science. Teachers work with students leading up to the conference to ensure that they have work samples that are ready to share and that students have rehearsed how to present their work to you.
The grade 7-9 conversations will provide you the opportunity to have targeted conversations about student readiness for class, work completion and engagement. We often find that our older students can be reluctant to ask for help when needed. This is a great time for you to check in and specifically inquire about their overall participation and willingness to seek feedback about their learning.
The schedule for conferences will be as follows:
Tuesday, March 17 – 4:30 PM-7:30 PM (virtual), 10 minutes

Planning for the 2026-2027 School Year
Even though we are in the thick of teaching and learning this year, our school administration team is busy preparing for the 2026-2027 school year. An integral part of planning is knowing how many students we can expect in our building. For that reason, we are kindly asking you to complete a brief Intent to Return survey.
Our ability to confirm teaching and support staff as well as provide programming is directly related to student population numbers. Your assistance in providing us with accurate attendance data is critical to successful planning. Thank you!
